Neal Goldfarb has three decades of experience in substantial and sophisticated litigation in a broad range of business, corporate, and commercial disputes. He has tried cases in federal and state court, before administrative tribunals, and in arbitrations. He is also a highly qualified appellate lawyer who has argued cases in three federal circuits and in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and who has briefed cases in three additional federal circuits. He has also filed amicus briefs in cases before the Supreme Court.
Career Highlights
The matters he has handled include the following:
- Defending a telecommunications billing aggregator in consumer-protection litigation brought by the FTC and in related litigation brought by the receiver for several of the aggregator's former clients. Mr. Goldfarb also represented the aggregator in consumer-protection litigation under California law and New York law.
- Representing a bankruptcy trustee in claims against third parties who assisted the debtor in concealing assets.
- Defending an auto-parts manufacturer against wrongful-discharge claims asserted in arbitration by the manufacturer's former CEO.
- Litigating patent cases involving semiconductor technology, software, steel manufacturing, and nutritional supplements.
- Defending the trustee of a pension plan against a lawsuit alleging that the trustee had breached his fiduciary duties under ERISA.
- Representing a pipeline company in litigation seeking to require the company's insurer to provide coverage for a multi-million-dollar judgment against the company arising from leaks from the pipeline.
- Prosecuting and defending against RICO claims and claims for securities fraud.
- Prosecuting and defending against claims for fraud, interference with business relations, and other business torts.
- Prosecuting and defending against claims for sanctions based on allegations of litigation misconduct.
- Representing corporate shareholders and members of partnerships in internal corporate and partnership disputes.
- Representing lenders in multi-million-dollar loan collection suits, and defending against counterclaims asserting lender liability.
- Representing plaintiffs in several lawsuits asserting Constitutional claims against the District of Columbia and (in one case) against the federal government.
Educational Background and Civic Involvement
Mr. Goldfarb obtained his law degree, summa cum laude, from the American University in 1980. He graduated first in his class and received the Outstanding Graduate Award and the Washington College of Law Award for Outstanding Scholarship. He was an article editor of the American University Law Review. Mr. Goldfarb has taught legal writing at the George Washington University Law School. He is on the board of directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of the Nation's Capital.
